Environmental authorities and local bodies in Kozhikode have intensified efforts to protect and restore mangrove ecosystems, especially around coastal and estuary regions such as Kadalundi–Vallikkunnu. Mangroves play a crucial role in preventing coastal erosion, supporting marine biodiversity, and acting as natural barriers against floods. Awareness programs, community participation, and plantation drives are being carried out to prevent illegal encroachment and degradation of these sensitive ecosystems.
